# Backups on UniFi OS Server

> There are two layers of backup: the console's own system backup, which you can download or restore at any time, and our nightly encrypted backups, which we keep offsite and can restore for you.

## The console's system backup

Open **Settings** (the gear at the bottom of the left-hand bar), then **Control Plane > Backups**.

- **Download** saves a system backup to your computer. It contains the console's settings, its users, and the Network application with all of your sites, devices and history.
- **Upload & Restore** replaces everything on the console with the contents of a system backup, including users.

There is no separate backup page inside the Network application on UniFi OS Server; the system backup covers it. To move a single site to another controller, use **Network > Settings > System > Export Site** instead. See [Migrating sites with Site Export](../Unifi/migrating-sites-with-site-export-wizard.md).

## Our backups

Every night we take an encrypted backup of your console and copy it to two independent offsite storage providers. One copy is immutable for 30 days, so it cannot be altered or deleted, even by us. Backups are kept on a rolling basis for about 90 days.

To restore from one of our backups, contact us by email at support@cloudunifi.com or through the chat in the customer portal, with the date and time you want to go back to.

## When a subscription is suspended or cancelled

- **Suspended for non-payment:** if a subscription stays suspended for 60 days we archive it. We take a copy of the console into long-term storage and decommission the server. Once the account is settled we can normally restore the console from that archive.
- **Cancelled:** a short-term safety copy stays for up to 14 days, so an accidental cancellation can be undone, and routine backups expire on the rolling schedule. Cancelled consoles are not archived.
- **Deletion on request:** you can ask us at any time to delete the copies we still hold.

## Restoring a backup from another controller

To move a whole controller onto a new UniFi OS Server console, restore its backup during the setup wizard rather than afterwards.
