# Getting Started with UniFi OS Server

> New Cloud UniFi subscriptions are hosted UniFi OS Server consoles. This article walks you through the UniFi OS setup wizard and your first login. If your welcome email points at a `.cloudunifi.com` address, you have the classic UniFi Network Application instead: follow [Getting Started](https://help.cloudunifi.com/unifi/getting-started/).

## Before you start

Your welcome email contains your console address, which looks like `yourname.netconsole.cloud`. Open it in a browser. The first time you open it you will see the UniFi OS setup wizard.

**NOTE:** Everything you enter during setup can be changed later in Settings.

## Setup Wizard

### Step 1: Name your console

Enter a name for your console (for example your company name) and click **Next**.

### Step 2: Choose how you will sign in

You have two options. We recommend Option A.

**Option A: Sign in with your Ubiquiti account**

Sign in with your existing Ubiquiti account, or create one on [Ubiquiti's website](https://account.ui.com/register). This links the console to your account and enables:

- Remote Access and [unifi.ui.com](https://unifi.ui.com)
- The UniFi mobile app
- Site Manager features such as Fabrics and Site Magic SD-WAN

**Option B: Proceed without a UI account (local only)**

Click **Proceed Without a UI Account**, confirm with **Continue Anyway**, then set a console password (there is no username to choose).

**IMPORTANT for local-only consoles:** the login page asks only for a password. Sign in with the console password you set during setup; the built-in owner account is called `admin`. Do not use the email or Ubiquiti sign-in option, which does not know your local console. You can link a Ubiquiti account later from the console's settings.

### Step 3: Finish

Accept the terms, click **Finish**, and wait about a minute while the console sets itself up. Then sign in (local-only: your console password; Ubiquiti account: your Ubiquiti login) and open the Network application from the console home page.

## After setup has completed

**Option A**: Import a site or sites from other controllers.

1. Enable multi-site under Settings > System > Site Management and click **Apply Changes**.
2. Follow the [site export/import](https://help.cloudunifi.com/unifi/migrating-sites-with-site-export-wizard/) instructions.

**Option B**: Adopt new UniFi devices.

1. Follow the [UniFi device adoption](https://help.cloudunifi.com/unifi/adopting-unifi-access-points/) instructions. Your inform address is `http://yourname.netconsole.cloud:8080/inform`.

**Moving a whole controller?** Use [Move a Controller using Backup and Restore](https://help.cloudunifi.com/unifi/move-using-backup-restore/) and choose **Restore from backup** in Step 1 of the wizard instead of naming the console.

## Prefer the classic UniFi Network Application?

Reply to your welcome email **before** running the setup wizard and we will switch your subscription to a classic UniFi Network Application controller at no charge. Once the wizard has been completed the console holds your configuration, and switching becomes a migration.
