Common Questions

If you're looking for more information on the Cloud UniFi service, you've come to the right place! We've answered a few common questions below.

Do you allow multiple sites on a single controller?

Yes, we have no limits on the number of sites you can add to your controller.

How are UniFi upgrades handled?

We upgrade our hosted controllers after we have done testing on the latest stable software release. This release testing generally takes 1-4 weeks to complete. On occasion, we may skip a software release if it does meet our stability benchmark. Device firmware updates are handled by you and can be managed through the web interface.

Do you support MFA or 2FA?

The controller software does not natively support MFA or 2FA. You can use a Ubiquiti account which supports 2FA authentication to login to your controller. If you do not have a Ubiquiti account, you can set one up here.

Can I migrate sites and devices from a CloudKey, Dream Machine or another Unifi Controller?

Yes. We have step by step instructions to walk you through the process.

Can I use my own domain name with the Unifi Network Controller?

Yes. Point your domain at your assigned hosted controller hostname (it looks like pXXX.cloudunifi.com) with a CNAME DNS record, then add the domain in the customer portal under Custom Domain — the TLS (SSL) certificate is issued automatically. If you later need to change or remove a custom domain, follow the order in the guide below first: removing the domain your devices use as their inform host disconnects them.

custom-domain
../unifi/custom-domain/

How do I change the email address I sign in with?

Sign in to the customer portal, open Settings, and click Change next to Login email. Enter your new address and we will email it a 6-digit code; enter the code to finish. We also send a notice to your previous address so you know the change happened. Your current session stays signed in.

Your billing email is separate. Account admins can change it from the Billing page.

How can I upgrade to a different plan to support managing more devices?

Contact us on our web chat or send us a support email. Upgrades require about 10-15 minutes of downtime to complete.

Do you have you hosting services all in the same location?

We host on dedicated servers operated by our datacenter partner, OVHcloud, across data centers in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, the UK, and the US. New controllers are placed in the region (North America, Europe, or Oceania) that matches your billing country. If you would prefer a specific data center within your region, contact our support team and we can move your controller. See our Security page for how these facilities and the service are secured.

How do you secure the hosted UniFi Network Controllers?

Security is layered: edge DDoS protection and network firewalls, default-deny host firewalls, a hardened OS with an automated security patch cadence, no public SSH access to customer-hosting servers, encrypted nightly backups with immutable copies, and 24/7 automated monitoring. On request we can limit access to your controller to allowlisted IPs (*P25 plan or higher). See our Security page for the full picture — a detailed Security Overview document for vendor reviews is available on request.
