Using Your Own Domain with UISP

You can reach your UISP at a name of your own, such as uisp.example.com, as well as at your yourname.netconsole.cloud address. Both keep working.

How many names

U25 and U50 plans include one custom domain. U100 and U200 plans include up to fifty.

Step 1: point your name at your UISP

In your DNS, add a CNAME record for the name you want, pointing at your UISP address:

uisp.example.com. CNAME yourname.netconsole.cloud.

Do not use an A record with an IP address. The IP can change; the CNAME follows it. DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to reach everyone, though most finish within minutes.

Step 2: add the name in your customer portal

Open your UISP service in the customer portal, then the Controls tab and Custom domain. Enter the name and add it. We check that the CNAME is in place, then request a certificate for the new name. This takes a minute or two. Adding the name briefly restarts our web proxy: UISP and your devices may drop for up to a minute and reconnect on their own.

Step 3: tell UISP its name

UISP puts its own idea of its address into the UISP key it gives new devices and into NetFlow settings it writes to routers. Open Settings, then UISP, then Server Settings, and set the hostname to the name you want devices to use. Either name works; pick one and keep it.

Devices already connected keep using the address they were set up with. They do not need to change.

Removing a name

Remove it in the portal's Custom domain section. If UISP's hostname setting still points at that name, change it back to yourname.netconsole.cloud first, and re-point any devices you added using that name. After removal they can no longer reach UISP, and new UISP keys would carry a name that no longer resolves.
