Backups on Your UISP Service

UISP writes a backup of itself every day, and we copy that backup offsite. You can download any of the last seven days from your customer portal and restore one inside UISP whenever you need to.

What is backed up

UISP's own backup file (a .unms file) holds everything UISP stores: devices and their settings, sites, clients and the CRM, network settings, users and UISP's own configuration. Device firmware files, UISP's log history and statistics history are not in it; UISP downloads firmware again when needed.

When

UISP writes its backup once a day, at 04:00 UTC. About an hour later we copy it to our offsite storage. The copy is encrypted in transit and at rest and is kept for a rolling window, so there is always a recent backup even if the server itself were lost.

Seeing and downloading backups

Open your UISP service in the customer portal and choose the Backup tab. The last seven days are listed with their dates. Click download to save a copy; keep one before any large change, such as a firmware campaign or a CRM import.

Restoring

Restoring replaces everything in your UISP with the contents of the backup, including devices and clients added since it was taken. Do it when you mean it.

  1. Download the backup you want from the portal.
  2. In UISP, open Settings, then Backup, and choose Restore from File.
  3. Upload the .unms file and wait for UISP to finish. UISP restarts during the restore; devices reconnect on their own.
  4. Check UISP's hostname under Settings, UISP, Server Settings: a restored backup brings its own value, which may need putting back to yourname.netconsole.cloud or your custom domain.

If you would rather not do it yourself, write to [email protected] with the date of the backup you want and we will help.

Moving to us from another UISP

The same file moves a UISP between servers. Take a backup on your current UISP, then upload it during our setup wizard (see Getting started) or restore it as above. Devices follow once they are pointed at your new address (see Connecting devices). We are happy to plan the move with you first.
