Updates on Your UISP Service
New UISP versions reach your service two ways: you can install one from inside UISP whenever you like, and we apply security releases ourselves after testing them. Either way UISP is unavailable for two to three minutes and your devices reconnect on their own.
Updating from inside UISP
UISP checks for new versions itself and shows an update button in its settings when one is available. Click it and UISP downloads the release, restarts and comes back on the new version, usually within three minutes. Our settings, your hostname, your NetFlow collector and your backups all carry over; we tested this before offering the service.
Ubiquiti publishes UISP releases often. Read the release notes first: a UISP release can change how devices behave, and a running network is not the place for a surprise.
Updates we apply
When Ubiquiti publishes a security release, we test it on our own UISP first and then apply it to the UISP services we host, as we did for PHP2Shell. We take a snapshot of your service beforehand so we can step back if anything goes wrong. The PHP2Shell update in October 2026 is an example.
We also keep the version we install for new customers current, so a new service starts on a release we have already run ourselves.
What to expect during an update
- UISP is unavailable for two to three minutes.
- Devices show as disconnected in UISP for that time and reconnect by themselves. They keep passing traffic throughout.
- Your subscribers' internet is not affected; UISP manages the network, it does not carry it.
The server itself
The operating system under your UISP applies security updates automatically. Updates that need a restart are done by us, one server at a time, at a quiet time, and your UISP is back within a few minutes.
